Decision Value is the value produced by an individual decision, or by a recurring decision flow, once it has become action and that action has moved the business. It is deliberately narrower than Return on Data and deliberately broader than a single KPI: it isolates the decision as the unit of value.
Why it matters
Organisations often measure the machinery around a decision — dashboards produced, meetings held, approvals collected — without ever asking what the decision itself was worth once carried out. Naming Decision Value turns the decision from an implicit step in a process into an accountable object with a baseline, an outcome and an owner.
How it relates
- Return on Data (ROD) aggregates Decision Value across a portfolio of decisions supported by data, analytics and AI investment.
- Decision-to-Action Latency (DAL) describes how quickly a decision becomes action; Decision Value describes what that action was worth.
- The Evidence Pack records both, so Decision Value can be defended without the consultant in the room.
