Definition
Information & Process Management (IPM) is the discipline of designing information, decisions and processes as a single operating system — auditable by design, adaptable by intent.
Why it matters
Public and regulated organisations cannot trade accountability for speed. IPM is how they get both: clarity of information, clarity of process and clarity of decision rights, in one coherent model.
Symptoms
- Every reform starts with a new tool and ends with the same friction.
- Policy documents describe intent; workflows execute something else.
- Audit and delivery pull in opposite directions because they read different maps.
Typical mistakes
- Treating governance as documentation rather than design.
- Automating the process before agreeing what the process is.
- Rolling out AI in environments where the underlying process is not defined.
Examples
A public agency runs the same permit process differently across five regions. IPM produces one shared model of the process, one shared vocabulary and one shared decision map — before any digital transformation begins.
How Zero-Gravity approaches it
We use IPM as the vehicle and Zero-Gravity as the philosophy: start lighter, define the operating model, and only then apply automation and AI where readiness supports it.
